Earlier this year, the Department of Transportation (DOT) passed new rules requiring commercial airlines to be more transparent in how they advertise their ticket prices. In the past, airlines advertised only the base price of the ticket. Now, airlines must disclose to ticket buyers the full price of the ticket, including the roundtrip fare, plus any required federal taxes, airport and any other fees a passenger must pay.
