If you’ve ever made up your mind to do something and never did, I can tell you why. Either he didn’t have a good or valid “why” for the “what” or he didn’t break down the “what” into small action steps. There is nothing simpler than that. The latter is probably the most important reason why most people fail to achieve most of the things they do not achieve. If you plan on losing 50 pounds, you probably never will. If you plan on losing 5 pounds, it is much more likely. If you think about paying off your $ 10,000 in credit card debt, you probably never will. If you decide to stop using them (that is, you don’t add more to debt) and pay $ 400 per month, you will be surprised how quickly you will see important teeth being made in that amount. If you want to write a best-seller, do you call Random House today and tell them to prepare for you? Of course not, you must write the first sentence.

Tell me … when you want to get to the top of a ladder, do you jump straight onto the landing? Of course not, you take the first step. It’s that easy. Don’t make this more complicated than it really is.

How many things in your life have you not done simply because you weren’t sure what that first step was? Make just one resolution right now. Make up your mind never to do that again! Get out of your own way.

Here are 3 things you can start doing today that show you the incredible power of taking small steps:

1. Get rid of one thing that irritates you. It may be something on your calendar that you really don’t want to do. It could be making that phone call that you’ve avoided for the past 2 weeks, although it needs to be made and you can’t stop thinking about it. You could take a different way home so you don’t get stuck in traffic. These are simple things that make a BIG difference to your stress levels! The irony is that YOU cause it all. The beauty is that YOU have full control over how to change them.

2. Delegate one thing. Ask someone if they will help you do something today. You will be surprised how often people want to help. You may also find that something you don’t like to do is something someone else loves to do! There is even the possibility that they will do it better than you and will not ask you to do it anymore! How is that to free up some time? Give it a shot.

3. Get clarity on one thing you won’t regret never doing if you keep pushing it aside. Just be clear about it. It could be making a phone call to someone or writing a letter. He could be writing that book or recording that song. It could be volunteering or learning to water ski! It could be anything! What is one thing where you will look back and say “could have, would have, should have.” Decide NOT to let that happen. Then decide which step one should be (probably a phone call or looking up something on the internet to see where you can do it). It’s easier than what you are doing!

Do you know what the best thing about this is? It doesn’t cost you any time! In fact, it makes time for you! Remember that we all have the exact same amount of time … 24 hours every day. Have you ever wondered why some people achieve more with their 24 hours than others with their 24 hours? They simply employ these types of actions. Don’t waste any more time thinking about yesterday! Try one of these today and watch your stress levels start to drop! Taking control is fun and enriching.

Get clarity … move … be happy.
