The Dark Side of Salt Spring Island

Our evolution depends on our ability to recognize and accept our psychological side of the Shadow, as well as our collective Shadow. A shadow appears when sunlight is blocked. When we block the Light of inner awareness, denying the existence of our fears, low levels of self-esteem and happiness, as well as our inability to be authentic, the shadow is cast and manifested. Hence our current global situation.

Fortunately, though in the 11th hour of Humanity’s oversight, we are talking about and addressing the Shadow archetype. Marianne Williamson, Deepak Chopra, Neil Kramer and Michael Tsarion are currently emphasizing the importance of accepting and then loving out of existence, our shadows.

Perpetuated and aligned with our Ego, our dark side hides in the database of the subconscious human mind. This, the animal aspect of our psyche, took over from our separation from Source. Now in 2012, it is the end of an era and it is no longer appropriate for this inner work to be dealt with quietly in private psychologists’ offices. As a species, collectively, and in the name of the greater good, we are called to confront, embrace, and transcend the selfish nature of the physical human being. Left unchecked, of course, the shadow will dominate and then destroy our personality, our experiences, and our world.

My dark side emerged publicly along with the dark side of my community during the summer of 2006. I was looking for an affordable home when a coworker told me that he and his partner were moving out of a perfectly adequate, hard-to-find rental. I approached the property manager and introduced myself as his new tenant. Within minutes we established a verbal and legally binding agreement. The local businessman and I shook hands, and I walked away knowing that my thirteen-year-old daughter, our two dogs, and her mom would soon be moving into the cozy little house next door to Gulf Islands High School.

Grateful and relieved to have manifested exactly what she needed, she had no idea what lurked in the Shadow of this win-win situation. On Salt Spring Island that summer, affordable rentals were a hot commodity. At the time I was telling my daughter that we would be moving into our new home in a few weeks, a high-level employee of the Salt Spring Island Recreation and Parks Commission was conspiring to interfere and, in her own service, , leaving my family homeless for three months.

Island Explorer Property Management received your email stating, “house has been discussed.” Then, while I was working, also for the SSI Parks and Recreation Commission, she told me that the house had been “offered to someone else” because of “rumors that would get out” that I got the house, because I worked for Park . Her ignorance of the Golden Rule prevented me from getting the house, because I worked for Parc.

When I pointed out that the matter was not in his job description or his legal jurisdiction, and that his interference was in violation of my obtained agreement, he touched my arm and said, “I know, but that’s the way it is.”

When I brought the issue up with both the contracted property manager and my supervisor, SSI’s General Manager of Parks and Recreation, the property manager denied he would agree to rent the house to me and my supervisor refused to tell me where to look about the house I wanted. previously confirmed that it was available “on a monthly basis”.

I decided to take my stand against what amounted to an older kid bullying a younger kid on the playground. Such blatant disregard for the needs of a community family without concern for the hardship caused from my perspective was unacceptable.

What followed, in addition to three stressful months of my daughter staying with friends and me and my dogs living out of my truck, was five years of due process. This cost me time, energy, expense, respect, my reputation and my job when my employer retaliated and strategically, in collusion with “my” union representative (CUPE), fired me.

As the conflict unfolded, friendships were lost and both my daughter and I were publicly humiliated when rumors of speculation spread as to why I was denied the only affordable home available on the island.

The house was never rented again and remained empty and rotting until it was finally demolished. Due process amounted to an insulting and futile attempt to be heard by the BC Human Rights Court and the BC Provincial Court. How some people sleep at night is beyond my comprehension as it is an absolute fraud whereby they exert their absolute power and ability to deal damage.

What I came out of there with, aside from being ostracized for my efforts, was an education in Law. I found out that the Common Law of People no longer exists in this country. It is under the jurisdiction of Admiralty or Mercantile Law, the Law of the Sea which has carried over to the land by which we are governed and expected to behave.

I realized that we have no individual rights contrary to what I was taught, including becoming aware and awakening to the shadow-inspired energy that absorbs the mind. the cost for a family, or for all Humanity.

The new paradigm we are shifting to for those of us who make the choice requires that all of that distortion of the Light be realigned with the totality of who we are, when we think and act from the Heart. By purging our feelings of lack and powerlessness, we create the space for our Soul to descend and fully integrate with our form, so that we can truly ascend into the luminous and harmonious existence that we would not otherwise achieve.
