Look forward to the new Premiership season

Last season was one of the most exciting in years, with some incredibly close battles at the top and some nail-biting games at the bottom, with two teams relegated in the last game of the season, with Manchester United topping the table by only two points. In terms of team changes, last season Derby County, Birmingham City and Reading all qualified for the Championship, with Hull City, West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City all promoted.

So who is going to win the Premier League in the 2008-09 season? Well, that’s a good question, and it’s probably going to be pretty close. Manchester United are the favorites to win the title again, with Sir Alex Ferguson still in charge, but Tottenham Hotspur are being marked as underdogs who can succeed, and will no doubt push for a Champions League place at the very least, after a disappointing season last season. Spurs’ rivals Arsenal also look threatening, with the prospect of striker Eduardo returning to football after that horrible injury last season. Liverpool will also be keen to impress, after an uninspiring season last time out.

The teams that seem most likely to face the drop are actually the teams that just moved up. West Brom are the most likely to remain in the Premier League of the three teams, having recent experience of top-level football and having an impressive Championship-winning season. Hull City are likely to be the team to fail, having never been in the Premier League before, as Stoke City’s last taste of top-flight football was twenty-four years ago in the old Division One.

However, we should all, as usual, expect the unexpected, as this is football and anything can happen.
