The idea was to create a special lightweight Corvette weighing just 1,800 pounds and compete with it on an international circuit not only against Cobras and other GT-Class cars, but also against prototypes from Ferrari, Ford and Porsche. The power of the Grand Sport would come from an aluminum version of the small-block V8, fitted with special double-plug cylinder heads. At 377ci, the output was projected at 550 hp at 6,400 RPM.
