Keeping your Instagram busy is a great way to build a following. An active account is more interesting than an inactive one. Also, using Instagram to share all types of content with your audience in many forms will be much more interesting to them than if you shared only one type.

Let’s look at some ideas you can incorporate into your stories to build a following.

1. Show a day in the life

A great use for Instagram stories is to take a day off and show up at different times of the day to share what you’re up to in relation to your audience and your business. For example, if you are a business coach, you may want to share how you run your own business and team with others.

2. Go Live

Take time to go live every day, even to share just one interesting piece of news. When you go live randomly, your audience will receive a notification if they signed up for a notification. They will pay more attention to you and even be sad if they miss it live, but they will also watch the recording if you leave one.

3. Provide an advance

Create a new product or service? Provide a preview about it. Are you testing new software that you want to recommend? Make a story about it. The more reasons you find to be featured in stories, the better your quest to find more followers will be.

4. Take a survey

Instagram allows you to take polls, which is a great way to find out what your audience is thinking. Keep the surveys short and simple to avoid confusion, as these surveys are not very scientific. If you want accurate results, consider limiting the options.

5. Swap Instagram stories for a day

If you have a colleague who caters to a similar or similar audience to yours, you can swap Instagrams for a day. You tell their stories and they tell yours. This is a wonderful way to get cross-promotion and more followers.

6. Countdown to launch

If you have an upcoming launch or event, use Instagram stories to count down to the launch. This is a fun way to get everyone excited about your new offering.

7. Use stickers and special effects

Instagram has ways for you to capture the attention of your audience; use them, use them. Add special effects, use stickers, add great hashtags. Call the right people. Make yourself known so you can capture those followers who love you.

When you share a story, always remember to include a call to action. Your audience won’t (or very rarely) act if you don’t tell them what to do. Anytime you create any content, you need to know what you want the results to be after your audience sees it.
