An air gum is a portable device that purifies the air. The device works by drawing in air on one side and passing it through filters and then emitting the clean air on the other side. During this process, filters inside the unit capture tiny airborne particles such as dust, pollen, and dander. 1. Do not put too much load on the pre-filters

Be sure to change the pre-filter regularly. The unit will not work properly if the filters are clogged. For proper airflow and long life of the primary filters and fan motor, the pre-filter should not be overloaded.

You’d better use high-quality filters to reduce air resistance. It can also help prevent air pressure drop once the filters have exceeded their efficiency period.

2. Dispose of old filters properly

It is important to dispose of filters after their expiration. Before removing the filter from the unit, be sure to wear gloves and a mask. If you are not careful enough during the replacement procedure, the loosened particles are blown back into the air in your room. Therefore, you should place expired filters in a sealed bag and then dispose of the bag in accordance with local regulations.

3. Use activated carbon pre-filters

If you want to avoid unpleasant odors, it is better to get a unit that comes with activated carbon pre-filters. Unlike regular carbon filters, these pre-filters are much more porous. Since they have a larger surface area, they are capable of absorbing a large amount of odors.

The porous material allows easy passage of air, but the surface captures harmful contaminants. By the time these pre-filters become saturated, you may want to replace them as soon as possible.

4. Adjust the airflow rate

If you want to capture the most dust particles from the air in your room, be sure to set a lower airflow rate. The downside is that a slower airflow rate doesn’t allow much air to pass through the filters. Even if you increase the airflow rate, it will not necessarily increase the efficiency of the unit. In fact, an excessively high airflow rate will reduce the efficiency of these devices. Therefore, we suggest that you follow the operating instructions provided by the manufacturer.

5. Purify your indoor air 24/7

For proper air purification, experts recommend that air cleaners be kept on 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Since these units need to be operated at a lower airflow rate for greater efficiency, it’s a good idea to keep these devices running even if you’re not home.

6. HEPA filters

Just because a filter media is HEPA rated doesn’t mean it can capture 99.97% of tiny airborne particles. The reason is that the size of these particles exceeds 0.3 microns in real conditions. So what you should do is invest in HEPA rated filters as they are made of the right type of material.

For efficient filtration, the airflow rate should be 250 m3/hr. If the airflow rate is higher than this, adequate filtration cannot be achieved. In other words, a lower airflow rate is recommended if you want to clean indoor air efficiently.
