Yankees hit basement better than Red Sox pitchers

The Yankees hobble out of Fenway Park, losing 2 of 3 to their hated rivals, the Boston Red Sox.

The Yankees were battered 8-5 in the series finale, pitched out and hit out in the 3 game set. The Yankees, in their 8-5 loss, couldn’t throw to save themselves. A sloppy play by both the Yankees and Red Sox, Yankees starter Phil Hughes could only muster 6 outs before being pulled. Hughes allowed 6 hits, 7 runs, 6 earned and 2 walks, as his ERA this MLB season has skyrocketed to 9.00. Hughes is now 0-2 and hasn’t shown any of the promise that he promised.

Red Sox Japanese import Daisuke Matsuzaka also didn’t impress, but he stayed smart long enough to earn his third win of the year (3-0). Dice K allowed 4 earned runs in 5 innings of work, and walked 6 batters, which is also not a legend. He came to the Red Sox with much fanfare and has produced well, just not in the expected superstar status.

The Red Sox scored 3 runs in the 1st inning and another 4 in the 3rd to distance themselves from the Yankees, forcing the Yankees to the bottom of the AL East Division, with a 6-7 record.

Alex Rodriguez took the collar, going 0-5, and saw his average drop to .260. Manny Ramirez went 2-3 for the Red Sox, while David Ortiz had the night off, thanks in part to his 3-43 start at the plate. Derek Jeter is expected to return to the lineup very soon, while Joba Chamberlain was given time to see her father sick with her.
