Will lunar colony populations ever send their athletes back to Earth to compete in the Olympics?

For anyone who has watched the 2012 Olympics in London, we have to admit that it is bringing nations together in a common cause and showing human excellence, sportsmanship and the need to strive for success. I think these are wonderful attributes for human beings, and it’s really good to see them. As a former athlete, I would like to see the Olympics more often, not just every four years. The Olympic Games have had a long historical tradition, and have you ever wondered what they will look like in the future?

What happens when we have colonies living on our Moon, Mars, or the moons of other planets? Will the athletes from those colonies return to earth to participate in the Olympic Games? Under what flag could they compete if the colonies are made up of people from all nations? At some point, those people will either live without a nation, or consider their colony almost as a separate universal nation by itself. We need to provide a way to get those people back down to earth to compete, if they can. When I say that I mean that since they will be living in different gravity abodes, under different circumstances, they may not be able to compete as well once they are on Earth, because of all the changes.

For the most part, at least in nearby colonies there will be less gravity and therefore their bones and muscles will not be strong, making it harder for them to compete. Do we give them a handicap? That doesn’t seem to be in the Olympic spirit or historical tradition. What about the many types of sports that don’t require superior athletic ability, but are more skills of the mind and based on precision? What about archery, for example? A person on a lunar colony, if found in a closed environment that has the same atmospheric pressure with similar densities of gases and air, could compete perfectly.

Maybe while they’re back on earth, they’ll just adjust their aim a few inches up to deal with the difference in gravity. After two weeks of training on the ground and having made that adjustment, they were able to compete without problems. In fact, I think if you sit down and close your eyes and think about all the different sports that humanity competes in at the Olympics, you’ll find that there are many sports that lunar colonists or people who live in a colony of Mars could compete. . So, I ask you to please consider all this and think about it.
