Chances are you’ve been on the Internet and surfing in and out of websites looking for valuable information related to a favorite topic or researching a topic for school or work. As you type in keywords, match the information you’re searching for on Google, you get 10,000 pages of information. It’s virtually impossible to go through each one, so refine your search by adding more unique keywords. Voila, the number of pages is reduced to about 1,000. It’s still a lot of pages, but you start digging through the information to find what you’re looking for.
As you go through the first 10 links on the page, WHAM! The information I needed to find was either first or second in PageRank order. Wondering how they got ranked so high on Google? You may think that it was very expensive to put that site at the top of the heap. The funny thing is, with a little know-how and around $75, you too can make it to the top.
Search Engine Optimization, or “SEO”, has become a standard in the web design industry, every client of a good web designer wants to be number one for their keyword and may be willing to pay the extra money to get there. A good web designer will dress up a website’s home page to match their client’s requirements on specific keywords. The customer will also pay more for the exclusivity of staying there intact. SEO has become a niche for many web businesses. They know that if they can get the company to the top quickly, word of mouth will help their business.
Through specialized META tags (hidden group of keywords), the web designer will strategically place the keywords several times in the title bar, keywords and even as hidden text. Some search engines have discovered these tricks and have banned certain websites from their indexes. Google has become the engine of choice for many people today. There is a different logic that Google uses to calculate page rank and keywords are just one part of it.
Google actually uses a specialized mathematical equation to place your site in a predetermined order. First things first, if your website is a keyword, that doesn’t automatically give you a top spot. It will take time to rank up and you need to sign up with Google as soon as possible to increase your rank. But just having the right URL (Universal Resource Locator) doesn’t guarantee first place either. You must also trade or exchange links with other Google users. The more you use Google websites that are indexed, the faster and higher your site will go in the rankings.
A Googlebot will visit your site frequently, so keep modifying your code and keep checking your rank and status. Eventually, your site will rise through the ranks and land at the top. It can take time and work, but you’ll learn to keep it there once you employ the right combination of keywords with links. Some companies may charge up to $1,000 for the first spot, they employ the same techniques, although they don’t want you to know. Keep your META tags, title, keywords and content in line with your keywords and continually look to optimize them. Do not under any circumstances remove someone else’s keywords from your code; this is potentially dangerous as you could be breaking copyright laws.
Good luck!!!
