Does the thought of driving through the great outdoors bring a twinkle to your eyes? Do you love feeling the breeze in your hair as you hit the gas on highways and country lanes? So the first thing you need to consider is a great SUV that can make its way through the harsh shape of the terrain and the harsh weather conditions that the great outdoors can throw at you.

Toyota’s RAV4 is one of your best options. For starters, this is one of the most affordable high-end SUVs out there. Since its launch in 1994, this car has given SUV lovers the chance to proudly explore the great outdoors in ways they couldn’t even imagine before. These are just some of the reasons why this car has established itself among SUVs for quite a few years.

  1. Excellent security measures: All-season tires that work great in most inclement weather conditions, along with Toyota’s own STAR safety system, make the car one of the safest to drive. Plus, the extra safety additions like the rear bumper step with black protective molding and child locks on all doors were very thoughtful additions. All security systems are standard features on all Toyota RAV4 models.
  2. Good fuel efficiency: An SUV that gets 19 miles per gallon in urban driving conditions and 26 miles per gallon on highways is very fuel efficient. All the driver needs to do is fill up the tank and head out to explore their surroundings, putting aside the worries of being stranded without a gas station nearby.
  3. Full of energy: A V6 engine under the hood, with a 5-speed automatic transmission, packs plenty of punch to take the driver through a host of unforgiving landforms. The engine manages to post a torque rating of approximately 246 at 4,700 revolutions per minute. The 4-wheel drive, supported by four 17″ aluminum wheels, allows for a silky-smooth ride, even in inclement weather.

The RAV4 will soon get a hybrid model, which is supposed to hit the market sometime in 2011. Until then, the petrol variant is the only one available, but weekend adventurers need not worry, even the general model of this SUV is enough to satisfy the adventurer in you.
