Tourism in Malta came into vogue three years ago, when the Malta Tourism Authority decided to update the status of its travel industry by implementing various strategies related to transportation, accommodation and the various facilities on the island.

Malta has always had great potential for tourism, but flights were expensive and the infrastructure was not exactly what tourists wanted. Therefore, in 2006, the Malta Tourism Agency tried to encourage airlines to offer low-priced flights from Great Britain, France and other relevant regions of Europe. Since then, companies like Ryanair, EasyJet and others can get you to Malta for less than £120, and many flights cost even less than £50. The Maltese government also invested money in improving infrastructure and implementing an internal transport strategy (adding new buses that would take tourists virtually anywhere on the island and establishing a robust transport network).

However, many of the hotels were already fit to receive visitors. Ranging from 2 stars to 5, the vast majority of hotels in Malta provide excellent conditions so that all guests can enjoy a relaxing adventure in Malta.

Some of the luxury hotels in Malta that are really worth a look are:

o Lemeridien St Julians Hotel and Spa in Balluta Bay – a really nice 5 star hotel by the sea, beautiful scenery, great food, indoor and outdoor pools, spa and massages.

o Riviera Resort and Spa at Marfa Bay – near the International Airport, offers spa, pool, beach and winter sun

o Preluna Hotel and Spa in Silema: spa, beach, pool, babysitting (for traveling families), modem in room, hotel for the disabled.

o Corinthia Palace Hotel in San Anton – pool, child care, fitness center, meeting facilities, concierge.

I have visited all of them more than once, but I must state that the one I enjoyed the most was Lemeridien. Not only did it include all the usual facilities of a true 5 star hotel, the staff working there were truly unique people. They made me feel like I was part of their family. They always had a smile on their face, always laughing and joking, but they were serious and professional when needed. I even made friends with some of them and we still keep in touch via email.

The other hotels are great too, but to be honest they didn’t give me that special feeling that I got when I stayed at the Lemeridien. I apologize if I am not as unbiased as I should be when presenting these luxury hotels in Malta, but I always like to speak my mind freely.

However, rest assured that if you choose one of these hotels to spend your holidays in Malta, you will enjoy your stay and you will not regret your choice.
