Toilet Train Cat – Are you kidding?

There has been a lot of discussion over the years about whether a cat, dog, or any other animal can be potty trained. The fact is, it’s a relatively simple thing to do if you want to potty train your cat. As for making your dog or other animal go to the bathroom on the toilet, good luck with that. However, if you want your feline to start using the porcelain litter box, you need to start moving it in that direction slowly. This is how you do it.

The first thing to do is move the litter box to the side of the toilet. This will get the cat used to its new area that will go to the bathroom from now on. You also need to make sure that the seat is constantly down, but the toilet lid is always up. If you have a man in the house who likes to leave the toilet seat up, he needs training as well. If the seat is raised, your cat won’t be comfortable walking on the porcelain rim, and it’s not very sanitary anyway.

Every day, start raising the litter box a little closer to the level of the toilet seat. You could probably add an inch or 2 to the height every day, just make sure it’s always stable as your cat will sometimes jump into the box and the last thing you want to do is knock it over. It may take a couple of weeks, but eventually the box will be as high as the toilet seat. Now is the time to take your cat to the bathroom.

You will need to use a metal bowl that is the same size as the toilet bowl or make a wooden box that fits snugly in the toilet area. Fill this box with litter and your cat will start using it, just like he uses the litter box. Start training the cat to keep its paws on the seat, and eventually you will be able to remove the litter box from the toilet entirely. Your cat is now potty-trained and can begin to enjoy a litter-free home from this point on.
