Let’s face it: When you hear the word “steak,” what automatically comes to mind is expensive, fancy food. But you don’t have to break the bank to enjoy a nice, juicy piece of grilled steak—there are plenty of cheaper cuts of meat you can use that will be delicious right off the grill. It all comes down to how you prepare and cook it and of course what you pair it with. Sometimes it’s also the atmosphere that makes a meal nice and elegant, so keep that in mind too!

Here are some affordable grilled steak recipes you can’t miss:

Grilled Ribeye with Garlic Butter

What do you need:

  • 4 boneless chops or eye chops

for the marinade

  • 4 garlic cloves, minced

  • 5 tablespoons red wine vinegar

  • 4 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar

  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

For the garlic butter compound

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 stick of unsalted butter

  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme

  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary

To make the marinade, combine 4 garlic cloves, red wine vinegar, olive oil, Italian seasoning, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl. Using a whisk, mix ingredients until well combined. Place steaks in a large Ziploc bag and pour marinade into bag. Shake to coat meat with marinade. Refrigerate for at least 24 hours.

Meanwhile, mix 2 cloves of garlic, butter, thyme and rosemary in a bowl. Transfer the mixture to a piece of plastic wrap. Seal ends and refrigerate to harden.

When the steaks are done, remove them from the marinade and cook them on a preheated grill over medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes per side, depending on your preferred doneness. Once cooked, transfer to a serving plate and top each with a bit of compound butter. Allow butter to melt before cutting and serving.

Simple flat iron steak with herbs

What do you need:

  • 3/4 kg. flat iron steak

  • 1/4 cup olive oil

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar

  • 1 tablespoon ground black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary leaves, crumbled

  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

Using a whisk, combine the olive oil, garlic, red wine vinegar, black pepper, oregano, rosemary, and kosher salt in a medium bowl. Place the steaks in the bowl and cover them with the marinade. Seal top of bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 1 hour. When done, let the meat rest at room temperature for 15 minutes before grilling. Cook for 5 minutes per side over medium-high heat until cooked through or desired doneness. Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with your favorite sides.
