When I was applying for jobs online, I found this job opportunity for a shipping and receiving coordinator. I submitted my resume and was promptly called about an opening for a QA (Quality Assurance Coordinator). I accepted the interview knowing nothing about the job. I assumed it had something to do with checking the quality of a certain product, so I decided to give it a try and take a chance. Jobs are scarce these days, what did you have to lose? That was two months ago and now I am a proud quality control officer for a successful printing company.

What is a Quality Assurance Coordinator?

You almost run all day checking the quality of the product that is produced. You make sure everything is as perfect as possible. He looks for errors, reviews production sheets, and makes sure job numbers and codes match. You make sure employees are doing their jobs and not letting any problems slip by. You’re pretty much the person no one likes, including the supervisors. I have heard people refer to us as cops or FBI. You are the person no one wants to see and makes everyone a little unsettled when you are around.

I have discovered that making friends in this company is not going to be easy, but I have to say that I find it all hilarious. Being a QA, you have some control and have virtually nothing to do with the supervisor. We have a track, but we only see it once every two months, from what I hear. The quality control department is somewhat separate from everything else in the company. It’s like being in your own little world. It’s like being a security guard at a mall or a chaperone at a dance. You make everyone a little paranoid and no one really wants to interact with you. If you have found an opening for a quality control position and are not sure what to expect. Here’s a first-hand look at the pros and cons of being a QA.

The advantages of being a QA.

If you like control and not having a boss always looking over your shoulder, this is the job for you.

Freedom is very nice. You have your own schedule and you’re not stuck in a machine all day. You have the opportunity to move around a lot, which makes the day go by much faster.

If it’s a slow day, you finish your rounds much faster, giving you extra free time. Some people take advantage of this goal, I don’t. If you want to play games on your phone at work, being a QA is the job for you.

The sweet feeling of spotting a mistake can make you feel proud and important. Showing a supervisor a problem he or she didn’t know about earns them a lot of respect.

If you are a social butterfly, then this is the job for you. You pretty much have the opportunity to interact with everyone who works at the company and you can flirt with anyone who catches your eye.

The job is relatively easy as long as you can focus and keep your eyes open. The feeling of control can also be a nice feeling.

The disadvantages of being a QA.

You’re not everyone’s favorite person in the world, and sometimes it’s hard for me to start a conversation with someone. They respond as if you were a teacher at school. They keep it short and simple.

Making people angry when you find a small mistake that the employee thinks is okay. When he finds a problem, the employee puts himself on the spot. Everybody wants to get their numbers. When you stop production, you’ll have some angry co-workers.

You really have no one to turn to for help or a problem. The supervisor on the floor will answer questions, but you must remember that they are more concerned with production than stopping it for a minor problem. You can make their job a little more stressful, which they hate.

If something goes wrong or an error escapes. Who is the first person they are going to look at, quality control. It is most likely responsible for a major bug in production.

If the company has a significant fall. The Quality Assurance department will be one of the first to go.

You really don’t have anyone who notices that you work hard or gives you credit for how hard you work. Nobody cares about you. The chances of a nice raise or promotion are slim.

The pay is not that good. I guess it depends on who you’re working for. If you are a QA for a car or truck manufacturer, I am sure the pay is very good.
