Pittsburgh Steelers must deal with the loss of Polamalu

The Pittsbugh Steelers were on top of the world after a big, last-minute Super Bowl win earlier this year. As the favorite to leave the AFC once again (despite the Patriots’ resurgence), the Steelers were sitting in a good position going into the season.

The offense in Pittsburgh looks as good as ever. Backing Willie Parker are two strong running backs in Mewelde Moore and sophomore Rashard Mendenhall, and Ben Roethlisberger was coming off another successful season as the team’s quarterback. Then, of course, there was the team’s defense. The Iron Curtain, one of the most dangerous and efficient defensive units in the NFL.

The Steelers looked strong during their season opener, with a solid win over the Tennessee Titans. Both defensive units excelled during this game, but Pittsburgh was a bit stronger, winning the game by just a few points and starting their season on a great note.

During this game, veteran and defending Pro Bowl Troy Polamalu suffered an injury that will sideline him for an estimated 3-6 weeks. This is a blow for the Steelers, and perhaps more than anyone expected.

Unfortunately, the Steelers faced some adversity during this game. Troy Polamalu, one of the strongest defenders on the team (and one of the best defenders in the league) was injured during the game and is expected to miss several weeks (up to six) with this injury. The Steelers will definitely feel the loss of him, and already have.

During a disappointing week two loss to the Chicago Bears, the Pittsburgh Steelers looked their weakest in years. With no forced fumbles, sacks or interceptions, the Bears stepped on the team.
