I have read many reviews of Eye 2. They are all very consistent with my opinion. I’m just glad to know that I’m not the only golfer convinced that the Eye 2 is the best even 20 years later. I bought my new game about 22 years ago. I’ve tried other deep cavity, forged, oversized, super game improver, you name it and tried them but the truth is nothing beats the Eye 2, comparable maybe but better is a tough task to beat and undertake. It is true that the sound of these clubs is not the best. In exchange for his forgiveness and overall performance, this is a minor price to pay. All balanced, the only downside is the lofts between some of the clubs. Some of the iron lofts may be a bit dated, but still, they have decent distance and great trajectories. I will ask and maybe my pro shop can change the lofts. If they can do this (Golfsmith claims they can) I’ll end up with the ultimate golf that goes from being great as it is.

Over the years, I have always come back to my Eye 2s. I have come to understand after years of trying one over the other, and I must say, there are so many wonderful sets on the market, that I will stick with my Eye 2 irons until the end of the year. end of their useful life, that is, if they do not surpass me, today I am 57 years old. As it stands today, I’ve just replaced my long 4 iron with a Ping G5 25° hybrid like the 3 iron with a #7 G5 wood. This addition, along with my G5 driver, #3 and #5 woods, and an old ping putter, make up my bag. I can’t have a better complete set of clubs. The only thing missing in my bag is a Ping Eye 2+ LW which I will change the loft from 58° to 60° once I can find it at a reasonable price. I should add that the price it is listed for (Ping $145.00 in eBay’s similar price range) is truly outrageous, but I am willing to pay the price to complete the best set of irons anyone could possibly own.

Today, if I HAD to replace my Eye 2, which I don’t, I would probably buy the Mizuno MX-19 or Ping G5 due to their similarity and balance of comparable overall performance to the Eye 2. As a technician myself and involved for several decades in the machining business, i think i have learned to know the difference between looks and more importantly performance. Unfortunately, many golf clubs today are designed for differentiation rather than game improvement.

By far the best is what is best for you. Do not walk away from this club of +20 years. They were designed and manufactured with true forward thinking and technical intelligence. With all due respect, Ping hasn’t been able to find a noticeably better iron in the last 20 years like they did in the late ’80s and early ’90s. Ecstasy and distance aren’t what mid-handicap golfers are looking for. below. Golfers in this category would be more than pleased and willing to pay in the $1,000+ price range for truly remarkable technical innovation.
