Lottery numbers 1 2 3 4 5 6 – Have they ever been drawn?

If you’re like most people, you think the 1-2-3-4-5-6 lottery numbers have never been drawn. Not only that, they will never be drawn in the future. That’s because it’s impossible. Or is that it?

Why has 1-2-3-4-5-6 never been drawn by any lottery? The simple answer is that the odds are astronomical. The odds of any number sequence being drawn in a 6/49 lottery are approximately 1 in 14 million. So those numbers have exactly the same probabilities as any other sequence of numbers, such as 7-12-21-30-41-49. The problem is that the first set of numbers is very easy to remember and the second set is not because it looks like the usual sequence of numbers.

What happens is that the human mind tends to see patterns where there are none. Because the numbers 7-12-21-30-41-49 look like numbers that are generally drawn, they look normal. However, those numbers have probably never been drawn and probably never will, just like 1-2-3-4-5-6.

As an experiment, I compared those exact same numbers to previous results from 6/49 in Canada, a lottery that has drawn twice a week for more than 25 years: that’s more than 2,600 draws. You can do the same here. With both sets of numbers, the most accurate was four. And guess what? It happened with both sets of numbers exactly the same number of times twice. So if you played both number games every week for 25 years, you would win about the same amount. Now, in one of those draws, the numbers drawn were 1-2-3-4-13-48; that happened on July 8, 1992. That’s pretty close to hitting the mark, don’t you think?

The point is that any set of numbers in the lottery, no matter what, has exactly the same chance of winning the jackpot, no matter what the perceived patterns in your mind are telling you.
