How to Spot a Fake Bottega Veneta Bag

Made in? Up to this point, Bottega Veneta handbags have not gone the way of Coach, Mulberry, etc., outsourcing some or all of their work to China. Currently they continue to manufacture their lines of bags in Italy. In 2001, the company was bought by the Gucci group, which mainly and exclusively produces products made in Europe. Therefore, any bag that has any indication of Chinese origin is likely to be a fake.

Labels and sources: Always check the inside of the bag for the label. An authentic Bottega Veneta bag should have a metal or leather patch on the inside of the bag with the Bottega Veneta logo and the Made in Italy seal. All real Bottega bags will have high-quality labels, with crisp, clear seal impressions. Beware of any label that appears to have a sloppy or blurry logo seal. If the letters appear hazy, swollen, or are bleeding into each other, the bag in question is likely a fake.

Rivet or Clamp Labels: Some Bottega labels have two rivets or clamps on the left and right sides of the logo, which secure the leather backing of the label to the inner lining of the bag. If you find a label like this, always check the letter B at Bottega. Authentic bags will have the “B” partially covered by the metal rivet. This is something fake bags often get wrong. They center the brand stamp inside the rivets, which would appear more symmetrical, but Bottega doesn’t. They fasten over part of the B. So pay attention to where the logo is stamped in relation to the leather backing and rivets.

Zippers: Authentic bags generally use riri zippers (but not in all cases). Riri zippers are premium quality zippers that many luxury designers (such as Marc Jacobs) use on their bags. To check if the zipper is riri, simply inspect the face of the zipper, or in some cases the riri engraving may be located under the zipper, stamped on the bottom. Good luck and safe shopping!
