The town of Godalming – Surrey is a civil parish in the county of Surrey in England. Located in the Waverley district, the town is just 7 kilometers from Guildford’s south side. Gogalming is situated on the banks of the River Wey. The city has enjoyed immense prosperity since its formation and has served as a catalyst for the development of the London commuter belt.

Unsurprisingly, the city’s success has allowed it to link up with other cities outside of the UK. The city has been twinned with cities in France and Germany, namely Joigny and Mayen. It also shares friendship agreements with the city of Moscow and the state of Georgia in the US The bond of friendship between Godalming and the state of Georgia is a fascinating historical connection. The founder of the Georgia colony, James Oglethorpe, came from the town of Godalming. He attended Charterhouse School. The City of Godalming is always improving and aiming for higher standards. The town of Godalming has existed since Saxon times. However, historical records show that the city may have existed in the pre-Saxon period and much earlier. If you read the records of King Alfred the Great, you will find a mention of the city in one of his wills. The city was known as “Godhelms Ingus”, a Saxon name. The term means “the family of the divine helmet”.

Godalming’s location is ideal for growth and development. Situated between London and Portsmouth, the area is a good resting place for travelers and merchants. Along this route, motels, bed and breakfasts arose.
