Build Your Own Computer – Which Computer Is Right For Me?

The great thing about building your own computer is that you can customize it to your exact needs. If you were to buy a PC off the shelf at a store, you would get what the seller thinks you need. There’s no point in having components you won’t use. To build a computer for yourself, you need to identify what you intend to do with the PC.

Ask yourself the following questions:

1. What is the main application on your PC? What will you be using your computer for the most part? Will you be using your PC for word processing or surfing the Internet and sending some emails? Are you going to use the PC to play the latest and greatest 3D computer games?

2. What is the secondary application of your PC? Think about what you might be using your computer for when you’re done doing its main functions. Maybe you work during the day on word processing and at night you like to take a break and play your favorite shoot-em-up.

3. Will you have children who use the computer for educational purposes?

4. Will you be using your computer to process high-quality graphics? Maybe you will be playing high-end PC games. Would you use Photoshop to edit high-quality photos? Are you going to be editing video?

5. Are you an advanced user? Are you going to install many programs on your PC? Are these programs hungry for resources?

6. Are you impatient? Some people prefer to get the best they can afford so they don’t have to wait for programs to load. If you have the money, this is usually a good option, as your computer will last much longer before needing an upgrade.

Reviewing these six questions and identifying the type of computer user you’ll be will help you identify the parts you need to build your personal computer. Obviously, there’s no point in buying a high-end 3D graphics card for $500 if you’re going to be using the PC for internet browsing.
