Culture is certain points in common of certain groups of people in certain geographical spaces. Culture is based on land and identity is based on culture.

Cultures are made because of certain spaces. People make their cultures fit the spaces they are in and different forms of adaptation make different cultures. The more the spaces are alike, the more the cultures are alike. Part of the development of cultures is due to the needs of certain spaces. Another part has to do with what cultures matter or what people take from their own cultures or other cultures to use more of.

People share their common points through languages that can be words, arts, behaviors or any other means of communication. As long as common ground exists, people feel relaxed being together and the process of developing culture continues.

Basically any structure is based on a foundation and needs some columns to be solid and strong. Language is one of the columns for any identity to be distinguished from the others.

Many believe that bilingualism is distorting the parenting process. If one decides to raise her son as a true American, English is the first and only option. There are immigrants who want to maintain ties and connections with their countries of origin because of their heritage language, which is part of their culture and identity. In reality, a person who does not speak English in the United States cannot be considered a true American. English is a very important part of the American identity, as it is the language of the Founding Fathers of this land. The more a person in America resembles the Founding Fathers, the more American they are. Land, language, and appearance are the elements through which the other aspects of American identity and American exceptionalism can be defined and discussed.

If a friend of yours said he had an American friend, you would first imagine an English-speaking white man. Another example, suppose you see a friend with a stranger at a party, if you ask “Where is your friend from?” and if your friend replies “he’s from the united states” you most likely speak to him in english, no matter what he looks like, whether he’s a black man, or a person who looks like an indian or even a chinese in likeness. Being white from the United States and speaking English are the first things that come to mind to describe American nationality. You can say, today English is an understandable and universally used language, it is true, but it is mainly used in case you cannot communicate with a person by your mother tongue. If you can, you will speak in your native language, since any language also carries meanings, feelings, beliefs or thoughts that cannot be transferred through other languages. Those who are able to speak in different languages understand it more. To express a feeling, a thought or an idea, multilingual people choose certain words from different languages, which means that perhaps a word in one language carries the best of what it wants to express. For example, with the words that you start with greetings, you don’t have the same feelings. So, that is why multilingual people choose certain words from different languages to express what they want to say.

Language is one of the common points through which people feel better when they are together. A traveler soon learns the words of his own language in a strange city, and is pleased when others can speak the same language. So they are happier to meet a person of the same nationality, it means that they can understand each other better and can enjoy more not feeling alone being different from others. The American traveler will say, “I am from America.” and he’ll hear, “Oh, I’m American too.” The traveler will hear more emphasized “Oh” and “also” coming from their common ground. Many times it happens that it is not two people talking, but their cultures and backgrounds. Perhaps the same traveler enters a city, in which the citizens are very warm to him even, but speak another language and that is when he feels that something else must exist, but it does not. Have you ever felt nostalgic in such a place?

What is written here can be true for any language and for any culture. There is something special in any space that is unique, something in the air, the land and the water if any or all of them exist. Like the plants that are special for different areas.

So the English that is spoken in the United States as what is said about certain spaces is part of the American identity.
