The Lemon Detox Diet is known as the Master Cleanse Diet, the Lemon Cleanse, or the Maple Syrup Diet. Kits are available for purchase; however, the ingredients are found in most grocery stores. They include fresh lemons, plain water, cayenne pepper, pure maple syrup, and salt or peppermint tea.

Although some people use detox primarily for the purpose of losing weight; additional benefits are obtained. The most important are the removal of harmful toxins from the liver, gallbladder and colon. The side effects are the reduction of cravings for addictive substances, an increase in blood circulation and the provision of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants vital for a healthy life.

Before starting the 10-day regimen, consider consulting a doctor, especially if you are coming from a lifestyle rich in caffeine and processed foods. There may be withdrawal symptoms. Plan to stay home, avoid driving, be prepared to fight food cravings, and stay near the bathroom due to increased bladder and bowel activity.

You need to consume a gallon of fluid a day. Store the following in the refrigerator: a gallon of plain water, the juice of 4-5 lemons, and plain maple syrup. Combine the ingredients as follows. Put 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and syrup in a glass. Add a pinch of cayenne pepper. Stir. Add 8 ounces of water. Consume 8 glasses a day for 10 days. Try to use the entire gallon of water in a day, mixed with lemon juice, as peppermint tea for nausea, and in salt water.

The first days are the hardest. Lemon juice and water are vitally important for staying hydrated while flushing toxins from the system. The pure maple in the form of syrup provides nutrients for the proper functioning of the body. Cayenne pepper increases metabolism and peppermint tea promotes proper digestion and bowel movements.

Some doctors warn against the lemon detox diet, as it can cause a state of imbalance, especially for those with blood sugar problems. Side effects can include dizziness, weakness, and nausea, as well as arthritic types of pain. There may be light and euphoric mood swings as opposed to headaches, confusion, and irritability.

When you break your fast, start eating solid foods that are gentle on your body, such as yogurt, acidophilic drinks, and soft fruits and vegetables. Gradually add solid foods, keeping the intestines loose with fibrous foods. Remember that weight loss can be temporary and require additional diet and lifestyle changes to keep unwanted pounds to a minimum.

Using the lemon detox diet wisely will bring many benefits to the body, including cleansing the body and mind, smoothing the skin, increasing metabolism, and reducing cravings. Caution and greater sensitivity to personal needs must be exercised to keep side effects and discomfort to a minimum.
