Choose vine-ripe and in-season fruit. for the most nutrition Do you eat tomatoes that have been gas-ripened? No flavor, right? I believe that when we eat these immature foods, especially when they are on the list of foods to avoid for our blood type, they can do more harm than good.

Most of the nutrition, vitamins and minerals are found in foods that are picked fresh. Asking the store’s produce manager how to choose individual fruits and vegetables is a really good thing. They know how to choose the best quality products, but here are some tips you can use…

for watermelons, do the hit test. The ones that hit deep are a good bet, but if you REALLY want the sweetest option, look for bug damage. The bees will smell the sugar and try to reach it. You will notice bite marks on the bark. These are the sweetest watermelons (and it always works!)

for pineapples, gently pull the center blade into the top notch of the pineapple. If it comes off easily, the pineapple will be sweet and ripe. If you can’t decide with this test, smell it. The one with a sweet smell is the one you want to take home.

for melons press in the slit where the stem was attached. I should give. Then smell it. It must smell sweet.

Oranges, lemons, apples must be heavy. Fruit juice has a lot of water.

Use the smell test for other types of fruit also, like peaches, nectarines and avocados. If you can’t smell it, it may never ripen the way you want it to.

Blend all your fully ripe fruits together, add a cup of vanilla yogurt to prevent fruit from browning, and eat 1 ½ cups of fresh, raw fruit salad every day for great health.
